Terms of Use

The rules of the house, written to be read.

Effective July 1, 2026

Agreement

Retreat Ledger is published by Retreat Ledger LLC ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with something here, the honest remedy is not to use the site, though we would rather you write to us first at [email protected].

What Retreat Ledger is, and is not

Retreat Ledger is an independent review and discovery directory for retreats. We publish listings, moderated guest reviews, editorial scores, and guidance. We are not a travel agency, a booking platform, or a retreat operator. When you book a retreat, your contract is with the retreat, not with us. We earn nothing from your booking and have no part in it.

Reviews

When you submit a review, you agree that:

  • It reflects your genuine, firsthand experience of the retreat. Do not review a retreat you did not attend, a competitor, or your own business.
  • You will not include other people's private information, defamatory claims you cannot support, or content that is unlawful, hateful, or obscene.
  • You grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to publish, display, excerpt, and archive the review on the site and in our materials, with attribution to the display name you chose.
  • Reviews are moderated by a person before publication. We may decline or remove a review that violates these guidelines. We do not decline or remove reviews because they are negative, and no one can pay us to do so.
  • Incentivized, coerced, or purchased reviews are prohibited. Retreats found soliciting them may be removed from the directory.

Owner claims and listings

Retreat owners and their authorized representatives may claim a listing at no cost. By claiming, you represent that you are genuinely authorized to manage that retreat's presence, and that the information you publish (pricing, dates, amenities, policies) is accurate and kept current. We may suspend or revoke a claim obtained through misrepresentation. Owners may respond publicly to reviews; they may not edit or remove them.

Paid placement

We offer optional paid placement subscriptions (Featured and Premium) to claimed retreats. Placement changes where a listing appears in browsing and is always visibly labeled. Placement does not and cannot change scores, reviews, review order, moderation outcomes, Verified status, or awards. Subscriptions are billed by Stripe, renew monthly, and can be canceled at any time from the owner dashboard, taking effect at the end of the paid period. Fees already paid are not refunded when you cancel, except where the law says otherwise.

Verified status and awards

Retreat Ledger Verified is an editorial certification with published requirements. The Annual Awards are decided by verified guest reviews and editorial audit. Neither can be purchased, and displaying either without having earned it is a violation of these terms and of our trademark rights.

Accuracy, and its limits

We work to keep the directory accurate, and we moderate what we publish. But listings describe businesses we do not operate, reviews describe experiences we did not have, and retreats change between the moment a page is written and the moment you read it. Verify the details that matter (dates, prices, policies, safety provisions) with the retreat directly before you pay anyone anything. The site and its content are provided as is, without warranties of any kind.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Retreat Ledger LLC is not liable for any loss arising from your use of the site or from any retreat you find through it, including the quality, safety, or conduct of a retreat. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, which for most visitors is zero.

Acceptable use

Do not scrape the site at scale, probe or overload our infrastructure, misrepresent your identity, post spam, or use the site to harass anyone. We may suspend access for abuse, and we fail closed on the side of protecting guests and honest owners.

Intellectual property

The Retreat Ledger name, the Retreat Ledger Score, the Verified badge, the Awards marks, and the site's editorial content belong to Retreat Ledger LLC. Photography displayed on listings belongs to its respective owners. You may quote brief excerpts with attribution and a link; wholesale reproduction requires our written permission.

Copyright complaints (DMCA)

Listings on Retreat Ledger may display photographs and descriptive material supplied by retreat owners or sourced from third parties. If you own the copyright in material appearing here and believe it is being used without authorisation, tell us and we will act.

Designated agent for copyright notices
Retreat Ledger LLC
30636 Southwest Ruth Street
Wilsonville, OR 97070, United States
[email protected]

Send a notice to that agent with the subject line "DMCA notice", including all six elements required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3):

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. Identification of the copyrighted work you say has been infringed.
  3. Identification of the material you want removed, with enough detail for us to find it. A direct URL is best.
  4. Your address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorised to act for them.

We remove or disable material that is the subject of a complete notice, and we tell the person who posted it. If you believe your material was removed in error you may send a counter-notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(g) to the same address, and we will restore the material in 10 to 14 business days unless the complainant tells us they have filed suit. Repeat infringers lose their listings.

Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing carries liability for damages under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). Please be sure before you send.

Content disputes and corrections

We publish scores and reviews about named businesses, so we take disputes seriously and we would rather fix an error than argue about it.

If a listing contains a factual inaccuracy, write to [email protected] identifying the listing and the specific statement, and we will review it within five business days. If a review breaches our guidelines (it is not from a genuine guest, it contains personal data, or it is abusive rather than critical) tell us and we will assess it against those guidelines.

What we will not do is remove a review because it is unfavourable. A review site that quietly deletes criticism on request is worthless to the reader and, under the FTC's rule on consumer reviews, unlawful. Owners may publish a response to any review on their listing, which we think serves everyone better than deletion.

Reviews are submitted by users. To the extent permitted by 47 U.S.C. § 230, Retreat Ledger is not the publisher or speaker of user-submitted content.

Subscriptions, renewal, and cancellation

Featured and Premium placements are monthly subscriptions that renew automatically until cancelled. You are charged the published amount each month to the payment method on file. We will tell you before any price change takes effect, and you may cancel rather than accept it.

You can cancel at any time from your owner dashboard, which opens the Stripe billing portal. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for, and your placement continues until then. We do not prorate partial months, and we do not require you to call or email anyone to cancel.

If you believe you were charged in error, write to [email protected] and we will look at it.

Indemnity

If you submit content to Retreat Ledger, you agree to indemnify Retreat Ledger LLC against claims arising from that content, from your breach of these terms, or from your misuse of the site. This does not apply to claims arising from our own conduct.

Termination

You may stop using Retreat Ledger at any time. We may suspend or remove an account or a listing that breaches these terms, that is used to publish false reviews, or that is used to harass another person. Where circumstances allow, we will explain why. Sections covering intellectual property, indemnity, limitation of liability, and dispute resolution survive termination.

Changes

We may update these terms as the site grows. The effective date above always tells you when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means you accept it. Meaningful changes will be noted plainly on the site, not hidden.

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, that provision is limited or removed to the minimum extent necessary and the rest remains in force. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.

Governing law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, without regard to its conflict of laws principles. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of Retreat Ledger will be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Clackamas County, Oregon, and you consent to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. Nothing here prevents either party from bringing a claim in small claims court.

Questions, disputes, and everything softer than a dispute: [email protected].

These terms are reviewed and updated periodically. Last updated 31 July 2026.
