These are reviews published on Google, not on Retreat Ledger. We show them because a listing with no first-hand accounts yet still deserves some evidence, but they are not moderated by us and they never affect the Retreat Ledger Score. Google returns at most five, chosen by them, so treat this as a sample rather than the full picture.

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience with the spa at Sun Valley Lodge. My group had four massage appointments that were booked more than two months in advance for tomorrow. We had the email confirmation & received text confirmations again this morning. We just received a call from the spa & we’re told that due to a “glitch” with a new booking system, all four appointments had disappeared from their schedule and no services were available for us. While I understand that technology issues can happen, what matters is how a business responds when they do. Unfortunately, the handling of this situation fell far below expectations for a resort and spa of this caliber. After waiting over two months for these appointments and planning our trip around them, we were left with no meaningful solution, no profuse apology, no accommodation, and no apparent effort to make things right. Losing reservations at the last minute with no recovery plan is completely unacceptable. The lack of customer service and lack of effort to right this wrong is mind blowing for a luxury resort of this caliber. I find it oddly curious that this is the weekend of The Allen Co annual event in Sun Valley & The Sun Valley Lodge is a primary venue of their weekend. Could it be that we common people were essentially kicked out of our appointments to accommodate the rich & famous? How rude. How disrespectful. How shitty for the Spa at Sun Valley Lodge to treat us common people that way. We would have felt so much better if they would have just been honest & said they screwed up & they need to prioritize their private party.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. I sat waiting for nearly 20 minutes while multiple servers walked right past me, looked directly at me, and never once acknowledged me or offered service. I went to the bar to ask if it was nice outside to eat lunch. After deciding to sit on the patio, the staff watched me walk outside, yet no one came to take my order or even check on me. After waiting again, I came back inside and asked for a menu. Instead of helping me, several employees looked right at me and continued talking and looking at their phones and still didn't offer any service. Being completely ignored multiple times is frustrating and disappointing. It wasn't busy enough to justify this level of neglect. A simple "We'll be right with you" would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, the lack of professionalism and basic customer service ensured that I left without ever being served. I won't be returning, and I hope management addresses how customers are acknowledged and treated.

I have only ever written 2 or 3 negative reviews & hate that I'm writing this one now. I received a massage here years ago & had a great experience, but went in May & did not have the service I scheduled & paid for. Staff has been unwilling to assist & has not called back when they said they would & are, essentially, accusing me of lying because of text messages with the massage therapist. I was scheduled for an 80 minute massage at 2pm on May 24th. I was not pulled into the massage room until 2:15-2:20. Once there, the massage therapist said he hadn't been notified that I was also receiving a hair treatment & left for a couple of minutes to collect the supplies for that treatment. After my massage & hair treatment, the clock read 3:15 before I headed back to the locker room. So I received a 50-60 minute service. At first, I thought I had just incorrectly scheduled a 50 minute service when I'd meant to schedule an 80 minute one, but then I received the receipt which charged me for an 80 minute session. Upon receiving the receipt on our way home from the resort, my husband called the spa, but no one answered, so he left a message with both of our phone numbers. No one called us back. The following Thursday, I called again & spoke to two people. One of them said they would look into it & call me back by close at 6pm. They did not call me back, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt & waited a couple of days. I called them again today (Wednesday) & felt like I was being accused of lying about not receiving the service I paid for. They stated that texts from the massage therapist at the time he said he was taking me to the massage room & the time he states my massage ended prove that I received the full 80 minutes & they will not be issuing me any sort of refund. However, as stated above, I was not pulled into the massage room at 2pm & my session did not end at 3:20, which would have been the 80 minute mark. I have been told the issue will be escalated to the spa director & I will get a call back, but no one has called me back previously, so I don't trust that I will get that call this time either. Very frustrating as I rarely take vacations & was looking forward to the service after a very difficult year. The price difference between the 50 minute service I received & the 80 minute one I paid for might not be a huge amount for some people, but it's not nothing for me.

What a way to end a vacation. I purchased an all day pass for the sauna and steam room. I did have a lovely time in the morning and chatted with the girls when leaving and told them I was so excited to come back at 7:00pm for a relaxing hour after a busy day of hiking and biking. We talked about it- they knew I was coming. I also spent a lot of money on shampoo and cream. Tonight, I arrived at 6:45 and the woman says, “oh, we are closing in 15 min.” I stared at her in disbelief…. “I was told I could come back at 7 and have an hour”. “Oh, sorry”, she said nonchalantly…..”we had to close early”. But I paid for all day - “sorry-we have to close”. I cried on my way back to my room. I hiked 8 miles and biked 9…..I was looking forward to this ALL day. It really left a crappy feeling for my last night.

Sadly this place seems to have gone way down hill. Not sure if there are other spas in sun valley but it would be worth a look. My experience was that everyone seemed really nice and always asked what they could do to help. I have larger feet and the slippers were too small, so I asked if they could find me a larger pair. The staff was really responsive to go look, but came out empty handed with the excuse that people just walk away with them... The other thing I was excited about was the hydration starion that they have a large display in the bathroom about this 4 step process. Since I was skiing and it was super dry out this sounded amazing. Alas, they were out of step 3 the serum. I immediately asked a staff member (oddly I kept seeing this gentlemen in the men's locker room just using the facilities, I would have thought they have their own area). Anyways he immediately found a woman that he brought in and showed what I needed. She nodded and I thought would be immediately back... She never came. I skipped the luxury hydration and left the locker room for a bite to eat. An hour later I checked to see if it was refilled and it still wasn't... One big note to highlight that I thought really strange was that the lady was in the men's locker room multiple times without announcing herself. This of course is odd because men can be naked and this would of course feel like a giant violation. I wondered if men just walk around the ladies locker room too... No idea. My wife's experience was that she signed up for a manicure to remove gel from her nails. When she went to her appointment the scheduler made a mistake and didn't book enough time for the gel. The horrible thing was that the gel removal was confirmed to be in the notes for the appointment. Basically the response from the manager and staff was that she was out of luck. They couldn't do anything but make her come back at a later date. They offered a discount because of the mixup, but honestly too little too late. We come for luxury not a discount. We walked away with an unforgettable experience... Just a poor one.
