What travellers say on Google
These are reviews published on Google, not on Retreat Ledger. We show them because a listing with no first-hand accounts yet still deserves some evidence, but they are not moderated by us and they never affect the Retreat Ledger Score. Google returns at most five, chosen by them, so treat this as a sample rather than the full picture.
My wife and I have just completed the 2 week self guided trek from Antalya to Kas on the Lycian Way. Very well looked after indeed by Middle Eath Travel (Deniz) who was quick to resolve the very few unexpected events we had during what was a very well orgainsied itinery. Loved the very varied accommodations and excellent local foods. Overall a wonderful experience - highly recommended.
Read on GoogleTerrific company. A friend and I walked from Karakoy to Patara on a 10 day trip organized by Middle Earth. Deniz and Els organized the transportation from (and back to) Dalaman, arranged the hotels, mapped the days, fit in taxis around sections not interesting to walk, and met with us to explain it all. Wonderful people, made adjustments because of our time constraints and were reachable throughout via WhatsApp. It’s a beautiful route, very rural and mountainous. We saw 10 times more sheep and goats than people. But hikers should be aware, the footing can be very challenging. Most of the hike is very hilly and rocky. People die on this route. Not often but occasionally. Do not hike it in heat (we went in early March) and do not hike it alone. The route is not always well marked. There are blazes but you’ll absolutely need the online map that Middle Earth provides. We were fortunate to have dry, cool, sunny weather. Rain would make footing very hazardous. Personally I don’t like walking with poles, but you’ll need them on this hike. Just for comparison, I’ve walked the Camino in Spain and 200k of the Via Francigena in Italy. The Lycian Way is physically more challenging due to the elevation gains and drops and the very rough rocky footing. A final note on the hotels. They’re basically one star. The people are warm, welcoming, hospitable, and happy to struggle with communication. The food was quite good.
Read on GoogleWe had a fantastic bike tour of Cappadoccia organized by Biking in Turkey and Middle earth. Hasan was our driver and guide and he had extensive knowledge of local sights, historical events, bike mechanics and he made us French press coffee every morning! What a treat overall! It was a real pleasure. The riding routes were well thought out - big biking days but Hasan was so flexible to recommend a hike as an alternative or shorter routes when we asked. There was much diversity in what we saw and where we stayed over 7 days- our favourite was a charming cave hotel home stay in remote village of Cemil. The balloon excursion was also an unforgettable experience. Would definitely recommend Biking in Turkey and Middle Earth travel when visiting Cappadocia region for unique and challenging biking experiences.
Read on GoogleMy husband and I have just completed a 2 week supported self-guided bike tour along the Aegean and Carian coasts, organized by Biking in Turkey, but provided by Middle Earth Travel. We had an excellent trip with Hasan our guide, who looked after all the daily logistics (airport transfers, accommodation, meals, luggage transfers, bike maintenance, sightseeing) but also gave us experiences and local information that we would not have found otherwise. He was so kind and friendly to us, and to all other people he dealt with on our behalf. He often went the extra mile to provide something special that he knew we would like. The electric bikes provided by Middle Earth Travel were good quality and suited to the tour. The accommodations and hosts were very good to excellent in most cases. Prior to the bike trip the company also organized a one-day guided mountain bike ride around the Cappadocia region for us. Our guide Arjun was extremely capable and very helpful with my low skill levels. We had a fantastic day with him riding around the fairy chimneys and rock churches of the valleys around Göreme. We will use Middle Earth Travel when we return to Turkey in the future.
Read on GoogleMy wife and I had a wonderful mountain bike adventure around Cappidocia. Ismail is a fantastic guide and showed us some great trails to ride, gave us information about the area, and we had a tasty lunch at a local restaurant. An awesome day on the bike and one of the best guided tours we’ve ever done.
