We had high expectations for this property given the price point, but unfortunately our experience was disappointing. The grounds are absolutely beautiful—very well maintained with stunning views, and we really enjoyed the hot tub area. However, even there the large glass panels overlooking the scenery were so dirty that it significantly took away from the experience. Our room was spacious, but it felt dated. The air conditioning was set to 65°F, yet the room never became comfortably cool. The mattress was extremely soft and uncomfortable, and both my boyfriend and I woke up with back and neck pain after just one night. Service was the biggest disappointment throughout our stay. Upon arrival, the bellman refused to show us to our room, so we had to find it ourselves while carrying our luggage down the stairs. Room service for breakfast took about 1 hour and 20 minutes, which is far longer than expected. Housekeeping replaced our regular coffee with decaf without explanation and didn’t clean the balcony. During our stay, our room keys stopped working, leaving us locked out. We had to walk all the way back to reception because the resort shuttles were infrequent, making an already frustrating situation even worse. The dining experience was also underwhelming. The menu at the main restaurant felt odd and limited, while the portions were surprisingly small considering the very high prices. To make matters worse, we noticed several unfamiliar charges on our credit card during the stay that were difficult to identify and required us to investigate after checkout. Overall, the staff seemed disengaged and uninterested in providing the level of hospitality you would expect from a luxury resort. This property has incredible potential because of its beautiful location and grounds, but the service, comfort, and attention to detail simply do not match the premium rates being charged. We paid prices you’d expect at a Four Seasons, but received an experience that felt much closer to a three-star hotel.

Stayed here for 2 nights while attending a corporate event - it was wonderful. The grounds are expansive and there is so much serenity and nature it makes for a great retreat location. We had a room with a balcony overlooking the gold course and enjoyed basking in the sun enjoying the peace and quiet. There are several trails leading into the mountains and we spent several days hiking and exploring the corral, the botanical gardens and the grounds. The pools and tennis courts at the River Ranch House looked incredible and there Club House has a great view as well. Service is good and friendly. Couple of downsides - it was pretty chilly compared to the SF Bay Area, not sure why and not what we expected, especially in the evenings. Also, there’s quite a bit of gradient to navigate for those we travel to get around on foot, but the hotel shuttle is always available. Luxurious yet low key - definitely worth a visit. Good for families.

Carmel Valley Ranch exceeded all expectations. The property is absolutely beautiful, with stunning views, spacious accommodations, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and unwind. The staff was warm, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay, making us feel truly valued as guests. We especially enjoyed the variety of activities available on-site, from hiking, golf, the pools, splash pad for the kids, and to exploring the gardens and enjoying the incredible food and drinks. Every detail felt thoughtfully designed to create a memorable experience. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a family vacation, or simply a chance to disconnect and recharge, Carmel Valley Ranch is a fantastic destination. We can't wait to return!

Overall, a really great stay. Note, I didn't dine on premises at all, this review is exclusively related to the facilities we did use/visit (the room, the fitness center, the main lodge pool area) Positives: - Room was very nice, with all the expected amenities for a hotel of this caliber. - All staff that we interacted with during our stay were very friendly and accommodating. - Main Pool area is stunning, pool and jacuzzi were at great temperatures. The staff at the pool were especially great. A wedding group caused the pool to be quite busy on the Saturday we were there which was a lot of fun (apparently this isn't standard, but we really appreciated the fun vibes that this brought to the pool area). - The grounds feature many interesting things that are great to see regardless of whether there's an activity going on currently (the organic garden for example). Negatives (the reason for -1 star). All very small nitpicks, but together these types of things add up to undermine the level of luxury one might expect: - One of the housecoats provided in our room had a drawstring loop that the stitching had clearly previously been ripped, preventing it from being used properly with the drawstring. - The shower head in our room was either suffering from mineral buildup or deteriorated jet nozzles, causing spray in multiple random directions. Turning on the shower instantly met me with a face full of cold water. - Although the large property is beautiful, it is not very walkable. Walking from our room to the fitness center was about a 30 minute walk. A shuttle system exists, but it wasn't clearly indicated how to use it, or what the wait times would be. It feels slightly intentional by the hotel to instead have people drive their own vehicles rather than build an easy to understand shuttle system. - (very subjective) The fitness center features "TechnoGym" cardio equipment, which has always felt rather cheap feeling to me. I'd have certainly preferred to see more robust feeling equipment at this facility.

We visited with our 2 yr old and small dog and we all had a really wonderful time. This resort is super family/pet friendly with lots of great ways to do things as adults, as families with kids, and as families with fur kids. The 1 bedroom suites are SO GREAT as a family - put the kid to bed in the bedroom and you can still hang out as adults in the living room. The grounds are spacious and absolutely gorgeous. Lots of walking trails, and they are steeper than you might think - you can easily get your walking workout in. The family friendly River Ranch area is a hit with a bar/cafe, family pool, adult pool, and full fitness center. To know: The walls between rooms are not as noise cancelling as you'd like - you can hear it if a kid's crying or shrieking with joy next door. The rooms are nice, if just a tad dated. And I didnt love that the bathroom doors were louvered and not solid (allowing sound to pass through, which could wake sleeping kids!). The food is solidly good and well portioned. It's not something that I would call "amazing", but all very good and not insanely overpriced. We asked for a lot of things that were off menu (like asking for vegetables for our kid, or a side of country potatoes from room service) and all were accommodated without any hesitation whatsoever. The staff is super friendly and helpful and never gave any indication that they were anything but happy to be there along with you - how often can you say that? It was our first time visiting, but won't be the last. It's expensive, but in a lot of ways, you're paying for a welcoming and hassle free experience, which makes for a less stressful visit!
