There is only one word to describe Borgo Pignano: Heaven. It is perfectly nestled between Volterra and San Gimignano, on a huge 800 acre estate. The staff are the best of the best (Thanks again Ary! [When she heard we were going to Rome she made a list for the best restaurants and they did NOT disappoint]) and Gigi is a stellar tour guide. We stayed in Villa La Lavandaia, and it was the absolute perfect size for four people. The twice a day cleaning with water left at the bedside at turndown, four free wine bottles a day, the huge private pool, all made it undeniably the nicest “hotel” (if you can even call it that) we’ve ever stayed in. The spa on property is incredible, and the complementary grotto with steam, sauna, and a tea room was overwhelmingly relaxing. Not to mention the hot stone massage! And the FOOD! Get a reservation for the main restaurant, it’s an incredible culinary experience. But don’t count out the Al Fresco restaurant either! This whole trip combined to be the best experience at a property we’ve ever had. 100000/10, stay here.

This is truly an exceptional place, between San Gimignano and Volterra..the garden of Eden. From the second you set foot on the property, you are taken care of. You have breathtaking view over the surrounding countryside, an amazing pool and garden. More importantly, an amazing warm welcome from everyone. I got a welcoming drink and the dinner in the smaller restaurant was super delicious. Exceptional breakfast too, in the garden. Special thanks to Vittorio who welcomed me and explained me everything. Italians DO know how to make it better! An exceptional estate, the only sad thing about it is the fact I could not afford staying longer :) For anyone in the area, do a stop in Volterra, and then take the road between Volterra and Certaldo Alto…honestly the most breathtaking road experience I had in my life.

If I could give the Borgo Pignano 10 stars I would. My husband and I were there in April for our honeymoon and had a once in a lifetime experience. It was a place of total serenity and beauty from the moment that arrived. We can’t say enough about how incredible the entire staff treated us- everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful and made sure that we had a great stay. Our hotel room was so beautiful- waking up every morning to the Tuscan Hills was amazing. We had a great time at the wine tasting experience that we booked. Every meal was also incredible; we especially enjoyed dining at the Camino. The sunsets were also INCREDIBLE. It’s a place that we will dream about and hope to be able to visit again one day. Thank you to all of the staff who made our experience so memorable. Until next time.

We had a wonderful stay at Borgo Pignano and left with many special memories of our time there. The Borgo boasts an expansive view of the Tuscan hills and grows almost everything within the estate. The Borgo makes its own wines and fragrances, as well as keeping chickens, rabbits, and pigs. The decor of the property is absolutely stunning, a perfect balance between Tuscan glam and rusticity. What stood out most was the sense of warmth throughout the property. The reception staffs were always smiling, patient, professional, and genuinely welcoming. The Borgo itself is stunning. The hilltop sunset views are breathtaking, the gardens are meticulously maintained, and it was lovely to see the animals that are raised throughout the estate. We particularly enjoyed spending time at the outdoor bar and seating areas, just let time passes by. The Al Fresco restaurant was another highlight—the pizzas were delicious, and dining there while watching the Tuscan sunset made for a memorable evening. We also appreciated seeing the diversity among the staff, especially at the restaurant. One of the absolute highlights of our stay was Gigi’s Borgo tour. Being driven around the estate in a golf cart while learning about the property from Gigi was such a joyful moment. His warmth and enthusiasm were infectious, and it ended up being our favourite memory from the hotel. Our suite was charming and comfortable, with a beautiful living room and an exceptionally comfortable sofa. We took the opportunity to take the shuttle to San Gimignano, which we greatly appreciated. One journey was made particularly memorable by our driver, who played Ludovico Einaudi while we drove through the Tuscan countryside—a simple touch that perfectly complemented the scenery. There are only a few areas where the experience could be improved. We booked a Suite with Charm partly because the room photos on the website showed a bathtub, but our suite did not have one. The room itself was still lovely, though the photos created different expectations. Given the size of the estate, it would also be helpful if guests were provided with a tote bag to use around the property, whether as a loan item or a complimentary keepsake. Finally, there were quite a few mosquitoes during our stay. The hotel does provide insect repellent upon request, but having it readily available in guest rooms would be a thoughtful addition. Borgo Pignano is certainly an underrated gem in Tuscany — a truly special Tuscan retreat with beautiful surroundings, memorable experiences, and many unique activities that we did not have time to try during this visit. We left feeling that there is still much more to discover and would happily consider returning in the future to experience more of what the Borgo has to offer with other family members.

Borgo Pignano is an absolute gem. From the moment I arrived, I was completely enchanted by the cozy, pastoral landscape — it felt like stepping straight into the Shire from The Lord of the Rings. The rolling Tuscan hills, the stone buildings, and the lush surroundings create a sense of warmth and tranquility that is truly rare. The staff were all incredibly kind and cheerful, making every interaction a genuine pleasure. It’s the kind of place where you immediately feel at home. The dining experience is exceptional. The traditional Tuscan restaurant beautifully captures the soul of the region, and the Michelin-starred restaurant is nothing short of outstanding — a must for any food lover. A special mention goes to Gigi, who gave us a wonderful tour of the estate. The way he brought the rich history and heritage of the property to life made the experience even more meaningful and memorable. I will absolutely be coming back. Borgo Pignano is the kind of place that stays with you long after you leave. Highly recommend!
